Workshop: Bringing Agile to the Rest of the Organization
Time: Thursday, May 20 10:00-12:45
Facilitator: Johanna Rothman
You’ve been on an agile project team—and it’s worked! You’ve been successful. You like the transparency, the standups, the demos, the ranked backlog, and the retrospectives. Agile is a great way to work. You’d like to bring agile to the rest of the organization.
Scaling agile is a non-trivial problem. And, scaling can be two different problems: larger projects and/or bringing agile to the rest of the organization.
How do you bring agile to the rest of the organization? Do you ask everyone to work in iterations? Off a backlog? What do you do with the finance, sales, support, marketing, and anyone else in the organization who has an interest in your systems or product? Do you try for a big-bang education effort? Can you ask people to go to agile without training? How about cultural change? Does Agile affect the culture (yes!)? How do we help bring agile to the rest of the organization? Should we?
In this workshop, we’ll explore how the agile team and project affect the rest of the organization and ways to bring agile to the rest of the organization. Depending on your questions and issues, we’ll either use some small simulations to expose your issues, and/or work in small groups to explore these questions.
Objectives
- Learn hot points of bringing agile across the organization
- Explore the issues of scaling agile, either to other teams or to programs
- See how to expose those issues in your organization
