Workshop: Implementing Kaizen

A Methodology for Organizational Learning

Time: Thursday, May 20   14:00-17:00
Facilitator: Frode Odegard

Hansei (deep reflection) and Kaizen (continuous improvement) remain largely unseen in IT organizations that claim to be using “Lean techniques” to speed up software development.  Yet Hansei and Kaizen are at the heart of what Lean is about.  In this 1/2-day workshop we will demystify these crucial concepts and present the basic moves (Kata) that LSI teaches its clients to help them to become learning organizations.  By practicing these Kata consistently, organizations help people see the bigger picture, unleash everyone’s creative problem-solving potential, and improve critical thinking everywhere.

Objectives

Participants will learn about how to:

  • Establish rituals for reflection and harvesting of problems and ideas
  • Maintain a shared problem hierarchy
  • Prioritize problems
  • Set up a simple workflow system for managing problems and their resolution
  • Use Toyota’s A3 method to solve problems and break down organizational barriers
